  • for, Persons with Disabilities (PWD)

Mission

  • To Change Mindsets and Create Choices with comprehensive media coverage on Prevention, Management, and Life with Disabilities.
  • To create an environment of collaborative networks and activities to promote independence and proactive integration of Malaysians with disabilities within their communities. Our objective is to promote the concept of 'parallel lifestyles' for Persons with Disabilities in their communities. We believe Malaysians with Disabilities have the right to live a full, enriching life, right now!
  • To promote public awareness and connect all parties involved in disabilities. The magazine style is Br ight and Breezy highlighting information and resources for independent living and personal development.

Objectives

1.1 To promote a positive public image and positive awareness of PWD.
Persons with disabilities (PWD) are usually portrayed by current media as either victims or heroes. CHALLENGES intends to put a face to Disability with positive, empowering articles of how PWD can and are enjoying a quality, inclusive lifestyle now. Our attitude is not confrontational but conversational. CHALLENGES seeks to provide information to entertain, empower and enrich our readers.

1.2 To enhance collaboration amongst service providers.
We offer a communal platform for better crossdisability networking. By increasing awareness of all disability-related projects, we hope to create stronger collaboration and minimise duplication of services amongst service providers or agencies working with the various disability groups.

2.1 Promote learning opportunities for PWD.

CHALLENGES believes in economic empowerment and will work with private/public organisations to equip PWD with pertinent skills for career advancement.

2.2 Journalism and media skills.
PWD are an untapped pool of talents and manpower. At CHALLENGES we recognise the need to develop this human capital resource and are prepared to nurture PWD with potential and passion for a career in journalism. To achieve this end, we have initiated a work experience and ‘internship’ programme to guide them in realising their vocation.

2.3 Promote e-accessibility for all PWD.
We believe that ICT offers PWD an enriching source of e-knowledge and will highlight websites, assistive technologies and products that enhance e-connectivity.

3.1 Promote Access for All.

Access to better communal facilities including public transport, healthcare, social, recreation, entertainment, tourism and hospitality sectors benefit not just Malaysians with disabilities but groups such as the elderly, persons with chronic conditions and tourists with diverse needs.

CHALLENGES seeks to highlight access for all including articles on accessible/health tourism, accessible built environment and public transportation.

3.2 To showcase inclusive solutions for services, facilities and products to meet the needs of this diverse community.
Moving into the 21st Century, Governments worldwide are getting more concerned with meeting the needs of persons with disabilities, with the following legal documents in force: the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and its Optional Protocol. Malaysia's new Disability Act 2008, should spur local stakeholders and service providers to play a more proactive role in meeting the needs of PWD in creating more universally designed consumer products, services and facilities.

CHALLENGES is a medium that is uniquely placed to stimulate market growth with promotions of innovative universally accessible consumer goods, services and facilities. Through our advertising policy, joint promotion and partnerships, we can showcase appropriate products, services and facilities to the relevant segment of this diverse community.

4 To create future leaders with empathy.
CHALLENGES believes in building a more caring future generation of Malaysians by supporting youth-focused projects that sensitise Malaysian youth to disability issues.
