Autistic Teen Finds Inner Voice

Autistic teen finds her inner voice

...A friend shared this video link recently about an autistic teen who found her inner voice through typing out her thoughts and needs with a laptop. Thanks Shantini.

Communication with such assistive device gives Carly power over her environment, allowing her to take control of her life and gives us an insight into the world of persons with Autism.

"You dont know what it feels like to be me," Carly typed. "when you can't sit still because your legs are on fire or it feels like a 100 ants are crawling up your arms."

She added: "People assume that I am dumb, because I can't talk."

and what came through her fingers typing one character at a time with fluency nobody would believe is astonishng ; the narrator continued as Carly unravels the mystery behind her wild behaviour: like banging her head -
"because if I don't, it feels like my body is going to explode, it is just like shaking a can of coke. If I could stop I would."

The Little People of Kosovo produces video clip to commemorate International Women’s Day 2010.

Hiljmnijeta Apuk , Director of Little People of Kosova said “International Women’s Day is celebrated in many countries around the world. It is an occasion for looking back on past struggles and accomplishments, and more importantly, for looking ahead to the untapped potential and opportunities that await future generations of women.”

She added that women and girls with disabilities have been and continue to be marginalised in terms of education, employment and health services, among others, and are a greater risk of abuse and poverty than other women.

In response to such need, the Little People of Kosovo’s theme for this International Women Day 2010 is “Non-discrimination” and had made a video clip to commemorate the event.
